Most manufacturing sites are running plant older than the people maintaining it, alongside equipment bought last year, on a switchboard that was never designed for either.
That mix is our normal. We keep legacy machines running, integrate the new ones properly, and upgrade the infrastructure underneath without stopping production to do it.
What tends to go wrong on the factory floor
- Capacity crept up on you — three machines added over five years and the main switchboard is now the constraint nobody planned for.
- The PLC is undocumented — it works, but the person who wrote it left, and nobody will touch it.
- Guarding was fitted, never validated — devices are installed but no one has proved the safety function actually stops the hazard in time.
- Breakdowns cost more than the fix — an hour of downtime outweighs a year of preventative maintenance, and it usually takes one bad night to prove it.
Most sites in this sector are better served by an ongoing arrangement than job-by-job callouts. See maintenance agreements.
