DB1 & DB4 switchboard upgrade for B&D Australia

Replacing ageing distribution boards and an old fused bus system with modern NHP switchgear — safer, higher-capacity and compliant, around live production.

B&D Australia is a leading manufacturer of garage doors and openers. Mobile Automation upgraded its DB1 and DB4 distribution boards and replaced an old fused bus system in the press shop — a project of around $42k, delivered around live production.

The challenge

The ageing DB1 and DB4 boards and the old press-shop fused bus system needed replacing with modern switchgear to improve safety, capacity and compliance — without stopping production.

Our approach

Mobile Automation replaced the boards and bus system and re-provisioned the press shop, staging the works around production breaks and shutdowns to avoid downtime.

Scope of works

  • Replaced DB1 with a new NHP Concept Plus 60-way, 160A board and DB4 with a 96-way, 250A board, complete with new switchgear
  • Removed the old fused bus system in the press shop and installed new overhead cable tray, isolators and machine supplies
  • Moved RCD protection back to the board (removing field-based RCD outlets), relocated the air-compressor control panel, rewired the pedestal drill via an isolator, and made DB8 sub-board additions
  • Tested, labelled (Trefolyte) and certified the installation with updated switchboard schedules, working around production lunch breaks and shutdowns

The results

  • Modern, compliant, higher-capacity distribution
  • Old fused bus system removed and replaced
  • Safer board-level RCD protection
  • Delivered around live production with no disruption
