Electrical Modernisation for a Leading Roller Door Manufacturer
The Challenge:
B&D Doors, a leading Australian manufacturer of roller door systems based in Kilsyth, Victoria, required a major switchboard upgrade to bring their electrical infrastructure in line with modern safety and compliance standards.
The existing system relied on outdated HRC fuses, which no longer met the company’s operational or compliance requirements.
The challenge was not only to replace and modernise the boards, but to complete the full changeover during the Christmas shutdown period — ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
Our Solution
Mobile Automation managed the project from consultation through to design, manufacture, installation, and commissioning, delivering a fully compliant, modernised switchboard system.
Working closely with the switchboard manufacturer, our team designed a configuration that met both B&D’s technical requirements and Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) approval standards. The solution included:
-
Replacement of two 400 A distribution boards
-
Installation of a new 1200 A / 800 A main switchboard
Once design approval was secured, our team coordinated with the client’s electricity retailer to manage isolation and reconnection of the site’s mains supply.
Planned Execution
To minimise downtime, the entire project was strategically scheduled over the Christmas shutdown period.
At the start of the shutdown, Mobile Automation:
-
Isolated and de-energised all plant distribution boards
-
Coordinated isolation of incoming mains with the power supplier
-
Disconnected and removed all existing HRC fuses and wiring
-
Installed the new main switchboard and distribution boards
A four-person installation team completed the full changeover within two weeks, ensuring a seamless transition and minimal operational disruption.
The Results
The project delivered a fully compliant, modern electrical distribution system, improving plant reliability, safety, and maintainability.
By completing the works during the planned shutdown, the client avoided unplanned downtime and achieved a clean transition to a new, efficient electrical infrastructure aligned with their internal standards and future expansion needs.
