Seamless Power, Zero Downtime: Mobile Automation Installs Automatic Transfer Switch System
When this facility lost mains power, staff had to attend site, start the generator manually, and switch over the supply. The process was slow, prone to error, and dependent on someone being available — especially challenging after hours, when downtime meant lost product, delayed operations, and costly callouts.
Mobile Automation was engaged to deliver a modern, automated solution.
We designed and installed an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) — a system that continuously monitors incoming power and automatically transfers the load to a standby generator when required. When mains power returns, it seamlessly switches back without interruption.
As part of the upgrade, our team removed the outdated manual setup and installed two Automatic Circuit Breakers (ACBs) with custom busbars on the main switchboard, integrated with the new ATS unit. All works were completed over a single weekend to ensure there was no impact on production or logistics.
Because the entire site needed to be isolated during installation, Mobile Automation supplied a temporary generator to maintain essential systems and safeguard critical infrastructure. This ensured:
- Chillers and air handling units maintained correct storage temperatures
- Fire monitoring and safety systems remained fully active
- Security and access control stayed operational
With the new ATS system in place, power transfer is now fully automatic and immediate. The generator starts and connects to the load within seconds of a power loss, then safely powers down once mains supply is restored — all without operator intervention.
The result is a reliable, hands-free system that eliminates manual handling, reduces risk, and ensures business continuity. The client now benefits from uninterrupted operation and complete confidence that their facility remains protected, 24/7.
