A secure data destruction operator engaged Mobile Automation to automate a second hammer-mill line end to end — an approximately $117k turnkey package covering mechanical design and fabrication, electrical and controls.
The challenge
The new hammer mill needed automated infeed and outfeed material handling, dust and particulate extraction, and a complete safety-integrated control system — designed, built and installed as one package rather than coordinated across several suppliers.
Our approach
Mobile Automation's engineering team modelled and designed the system in-house, fabricated it in the workshop, and delivered the electrical and controls — a genuine one-contractor turnkey build.
Scope of works
- In-house mechanical engineering: 3D modelling of drive and driven roller shafts, shells and rings, take-up units, and the enclosure and brackets; bearing and geometry calculations; incline-angle and height sizing to the available space
- Fabrication: main frame and mobile trolley manufacture, welding, castors and mounting plates, gearmotor fitment (shaft modification, key and circlip) and powder-coating, plus 2D drawings for externally-made parts
- Electrical cabinet and complete control system with integrated safety; infeed and outfeed conveyors; vibratory feeder and hopper
- Downdraft particulate-capture platform and complete extraction system, quick-disconnect multipole plugs, and lifting-tine modifications
The results
- A turnkey automated hammer-mill line delivered by one contractor
- Mechanical fabrication, electrical and controls all delivered in-house
- From CAD model to commissioned, safety-integrated system
- Integrated dust and particulate extraction for a safer workplace
