About Mobile Automation

39 years of keeping Australian industry operating.

Family-founded in 1987, Mobile Automation has grown from an industrial electrical contractor into Victoria's trusted one-stop industrial solutions team — electrical, automation & engineering, robotics and mechanical, under one roof in Montrose.

Our story

Mobile Automation began in 1987 as Mobile Electrics — an industrial electrical contractor with a simple vision: be the one call a factory needs to make. As clients asked us to solve bigger problems, we grew into them. In 2006, with automation, engineering and systems integration added to the toolbox, Mobile Automation was born.

Today our workforce spans engineers, Special Class electricians, A-Grade electricians, mechanical fitters and apprentices — operating from a purpose-built headquarters with fully equipped control-cabinet and mechanical workshops, and a fleet of 40+ stocked service vehicles covering metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. We deliver over 1000 jobs a year, from two-hour breakdown calls to multi-month automation programs.

How we work

We turn up when we said we would. We quote honestly, and we tell you early when something has changed rather than at invoice time. We document what we build, because the person maintaining it in ten years probably won't be the person who installed it. And we answer the phone when something breaks.

No job is too big or too small — a two-hour breakdown call gets the same people and the same care as a twelve-month automation program. Some of our longest relationships started with a callout.

Why clients stay

  • Single point of accountability — electrical, engineering, robotics and mechanical delivered by one contractor on one job system. Interface risk between trades sits with us, not with your project manager.
  • Installations built to be maintained — logical cabinet layouts, traceable cable runs and as-built documentation that matches what was installed. The cost of an installation is realised over its service life, not at handover.
  • Commercial transparency — itemised pricing, variations raised before they are incurred, and a clear position when the scope you have asked for is not the scope you need.
  • Production-led scheduling — works planned to your shutdown windows, cells proven off-site before delivery, and staging designed around output rather than our convenience.
  • Safety embedded in delivery — documented safe work practices applied consistently on client sites and in our own workshop, and the same standard expected of anyone we bring with us.

What clients say

Long relationships are our best reference — many clients have worked with us for decades.

“Mobile Automation integrated our furnace with an ABB robot — control system, safety, interface software and training. Their solutions were based on our requirements, not on selling a product. Experienced, skilled and very professional.”

Roshan — National Engineering Coordinator, CSIRO

“Our multimillion-dollar plant upgrade had to go live over Christmas, when skilled tradesmen were scarce. Mobile Automation got our new equipment live on a very tight deadline. I'd highly recommend them for projects big or small.”

Scott — Plant Manager, INEX Independent Extrusions

“The team have proven to be technically proficient, detail oriented and have worked diligently on each project to deliver successful outcomes. Mobile Automation remain a vendor of choice for our automation needs.”

Chris — Group Operations Manager, CA Group

“Mobile Automation upgraded and automated seven of our twelve tube-bending machines, on time and on budget. When a freak accident left us without electrical services, their team worked around the clock to get production back with minimal delay.”

Darren — Operations Manager, Atmus

“They designed, engineered and automated our ideas into reality — project management, design, CAD, manufacturing and installation as a complete turnkey solution. A great crew who get the job done.”

Daniel — Managing Director, Secure Hard Drive Destruction

“Our Double End Tenon Saw upgrade was technically complex — converting to solid state with CAT 4 safety controls. Delivered on time and on budget, and two years on we've had no service calls. A stable system our operators trust.”

Dowell Windows

“We rely on our roll-forming machines to meet strict automotive deadlines. Mobile Automation has supported us for years with real technical expertise and a quick breakdown response that keeps our downtime manageable.”

Joe — Engineering Manager, Accurate Profile Roll Forming

“When our regular electrician couldn't attend a critical breakdown, Mobile Automation had a Special Class electrician on site within the hour and the fault fixed fast. We now rely on them for our critical operations.”
